Introduction to Pop Culture Studies

Introduction to Pop Culture Studies was one of the first courses I taught and designed independently. It was important for me that the course materials had the same vibrant energy as the subject. I created a visual identity for the course using bright colors and imagery drawn from the media discussed in class.

I’ve included the course syllabus and some selected assignments that demonstrate the philosophical approach I took to the course. I wanted students to become active viewers and creators of culture.

The Rewriting Pop Culture assignment was my attempt at an authentic assessment for the course. It tasked students with creating a work of fan art that critically commented on a work of their choice.
